What to do before an acupuncture treatment?
Avoid scheduling anything strenuous immediately before or after your treatment. It's a good idea to buffer time around your acupuncture appointment so that you are not rushing in or out of your appointment, and so you are not stressed while receiving the treatment.
What to wear to acupuncture?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing or bring gym clothes to change into. Often we will need to access various body areas and will need you to roll up your pants or sleeves. For patients who are unable to do this, we will provide sheets to ensure your comfort.
Should you eat before acupuncture?
Avoid being too hungry or too full during your acupuncture appointment. You want to feel nourished, but not actively digesting a heavy meal during your treatment.
Why should you drink water before and after acupuncture?
Staying hydrated before and after acupuncture is important because your body can release toxins into your system. Drinking water before and after your treatment can help to flush out these toxins.
Is it okay to drink coffee before acupuncture?
It's a good idea to avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks) for a few hours before your treatment. Caffeine is a nervous system stimulant, which can directly counteract the effects of acupuncture treatment. Coffee also has a dehydrating effect on the body, so it's a good idea to avoid it directly after acupuncture as well. We do recommend increasing your water intake.
Can you drink alcohol before acupuncture?
No. Do not drink alcohol in the 24 hours before an acupuncture treatment. We also advise you to avoid or reduce alcohol consumption for the rest of the day following an acupuncture treatment. Some people find that they are more sensitive to or have negative reactions to alcohol following acupuncture.
